VBMAPP – Generative Learning Assessment (GLA)
In-Person Intensive Workshop – July 19, 2026 | Pescara, Italy
IN COLLABORATION WITH:
Early Generative Learning Development: Assessment and Clinical Programming
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) offers a strong evidence base for supporting individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders, particularly Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). However, effective intervention requires more than the application of procedures: it demands precise assessment tools capable of identifying generative repertoires—those skills that allow new learning to emerge without direct teaching.
This full-day, in-person workshop is entirely dedicated to the VBMAPP- Generative Learning Assessment (VBMAPP-GLA), an innovative assessment tool designed to evaluate early generative language and learning repertoires within a verbal behavior framework.
The workshop will be led by Andresa De Souza, Ph.D., BCBA-D, one of the key contributors to the development and dissemination of the GLA, and represents a unique training opportunity for European professionals.
A First-of-Its-Kind Event in Europe
The July 19 workshop is the first official training event in Europe fully dedicated to the Generative Learning Assessment (GLA). For professionals working in early intervention and language development, this represents a rare opportunity to receive direct, hands-on training from a developer of the instrument, in an intensive and practice-oriented format.
The VBMAPP-Generative Learning Assessment (VBMAPP-GLA)
The VBMAPP-GLA is a verbal behavior–based assessment currently under development, designed to identify and measure generative and generalized learning repertoires, both verbal and non-verbal.
The instrument was developed by a team that includes Caio Miguel and Mark Sundberg, and is conceptually and operationally aligned with the VB-MAPP, while extending its focus specifically to generativity.
Within the VB-MAPP framework, generative learning repertoires are considered critical milestones—true behavioral cusps—from which increasingly complex language and learning emerge.
The GLA was created to systematically identify these repertoires and support clinicians when generative language does not develop spontaneously.
Workshop Content
SUNDAY 19th July 09.00 – 17.00
Throughout the day, participants will engage in an intensive combination of theory and applied practice, including:
- Foundations of verbal behavior supporting generative language development
- Structure and clinical logic of GLA – Level 1
- Scoring procedures
- Interpretation of results
- Clinical decision-making
- Introduction to generalized repertoires in Level 2, such as:
- Generalized echoic
- Generalized imitation
- Linking assessment outcomes to intervention planning
- Analysis of clinical videos, case examples, and guided scoring practice
The workshop is designed to provide immediately applicable clinical skills, with a strong emphasis on moving from assessment to meaningful, generative programming.
Who Should Attend
This workshop is intended for:
- Behavior Analysts (BCBA/BCBA-D)
- Psychologists and clinicians working in early intervention
- Speech-language and communication professionals
- Advanced students and practitioners interested in verbal behavior and generative learning
Why Attend
- First GLA workshop ever held in Europe
- Fully in-person, hands-on training
- Direct instruction from a GLA developer
- Strong continuity with VB-MAPP and Skinner’s verbal behavior framework
